Legal & rights

Updating your name & sex details

Since 2023 you can update the registered sex on your birth certificate by self-identification — a simple statutory-declaration process through Births, Deaths & Marriages. You can change your name on the same form.

Community Law

Free, one-on-one legal help for people on low incomes, with 24 centres and outreach clinics across the motu.

Human Rights Commission

Experienced discrimination or harassment? Te Kāhui Tika Tangata offers free, confidential information and a complaints process.
